WSO2 API Manager Administrator / Platform Engineer (AKS, MCP, LLM APIs)

Contract role in Stockholm for a senior engineer (5–7 years) to administer and operate WSO2 API Manager across dev/stage/prod on Linux VMs and Azure AKS. You will configure core WSO2 components (Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager), integrate third-party key managers/IdPs (Keycloak/Okta/Curity), handle upgrades and troubleshooting, and ensure HA, security, and performance. The role also includes onboarding and governing LLM-based APIs (OpenAI/Azure OpenAI/Anthropic) and setting up/operating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and client-server integrations, applying authentication/authorization, throttling, observability, and API governance policies in collaboration with DevOps/platform teams.

Administer and maintain WSO2 API Manager environments across development, staging, and production

Configure and manage core components including the Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, and Traffic Manager

Integrate and manage third-party key managers (e.g., Keycloak, Okta, Curtiy) with WSO2 API Manager

Deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot WSO2 API Manager installations on virtual machines (Linux-based)

Manage and support WSO2 deployments running on Azure AKS, including pod scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage, and cluster monitoring

Onboard and manage LLM-based APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic) through the API Manager — including rate limiting, token-based throttling, and usage tracking

Set up, configure, and maintain MCP servers that expose tools, resources, and prompts to LLM-based clients

Design and troubleshoot MCP client-server integrations — understanding the full lifecycle including capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, and context passing between clients and servers

Govern MCP server endpoints through the API gateway — applying authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and observability policies

Define and enforce API governance policies, lifecycle management, and security standards

Monitor API traffic, diagnose performance issues, and optimize gateway throughput

Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation

WSO2 API Manager administration (v3.x or v4.x)

WSO2 core components: Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager

WSO2 Carbon-based architecture understanding

Integrating third-party key managers / identity providers with WSO2 (e.g., Keycloak, Okta, Curity)

Installing/configuring WSO2 API Manager on Linux virtual machines

Database setup for WSO2 (MySQL or PostgreSQL or MSSQL)

Load balancer configuration and high-availability WSO2 deployments

Azure AKS operations (kubectl, Helm)

AKS scaling (pods), ingress configuration, persistent storage

AKS monitoring (Azure Monitor and/or Prometheus/Grafana)

API governance policies, lifecycle management, and security standards

Monitoring API traffic, diagnosing performance issues, optimizing gateway throughput

OAuth2, JWT, API security, certificate management

Linux system administration

LLM API familiarity (request/response, token-based billing, streaming, rate limits) and governing via API gateway

Model Context Protocol (MCP) deep understanding: architecture, transports (stdio, HTTP with SSE/Streamable HTTP), session lifecycle

MCP server setup/configuration/maintenance (exposing tools/resources/prompts)

MCP client-server integration lifecycle (capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, context passing)

Securing MCP endpoints (authn/authz, scoping, input validation, sandboxing)

Troubleshooting MCP communication (tool call failures, transport issues, schema mismatches, timeouts)
