WSO2 API Manager Administrator (Azure AKS, Linux, MCP/LLM APIs)

Contract assignment in Solna for an experienced WSO2 API Manager Administrator to run and evolve API management platforms across dev/stage/prod. The role covers WSO2 APIM core components (Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager) on both Linux VM and Azure AKS deployments, including upgrades, HA, monitoring, and troubleshooting. You will integrate external key managers/IdPs (e.g., Keycloak/Okta/Curity), enforce OAuth2/JWT-based API security and governance, and onboard LLM APIs (OpenAI/Azure OpenAI/Anthropic) with throttling and usage tracking. A key focus is understanding and operating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and governing MCP traffic through the API gateway.

Administer and maintain WSO2 API Manager environments across development, staging, and production

Configure and manage core components including the Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, and Traffic Manager

Deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot WSO2 API Manager installations on virtual machines (Linux-based)

Manage and support WSO2 deployments running on Azure AKS, including pod scaling, ingress configuration, persistent storage, and cluster monitoring

Set up, configure, and maintain MCP servers that expose tools, resources, and prompts to LLM-based clients

Design and troubleshoot MCP client-server integrations — understanding the full lifecycle including capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, and context passing between clients and servers

Govern MCP server endpoints through the API gateway — applying authentication, authorization, rate limiting, and observability policies

Define and enforce API governance policies, lifecycle management, and security standards

Monitor API traffic, diagnose performance issues, and optimize gateway throughput

Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment automation

Maintain documentation for configurations, runbooks, and operational procedures

4+ years of hands-on experience administering WSO2 API Manager (versions 3.x or 4.x)

WSO2 APIM core components: Gateway, Publisher, Developer Portal, Key Manager, Traffic Manager

WSO2 Carbon-based architecture understanding

Integrating third-party key managers / identity providers with WSO2 (e.g., Keycloak, Okta, Curity)

Linux VM-based installation/configuration/upgrade/troubleshooting of WSO2 APIM

Database setup/operations for WSO2 APIM (MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MSSQL)

Load balancer configuration and high-availability (HA) deployments for WSO2 APIM

Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) operations: kubectl, Helm, node pools

AKS networking: VNET integration and ingress controllers

AKS monitoring: Azure Monitor and/or Prometheus/Grafana

API gateway operations: scaling, ingress, persistent storage, cluster monitoring

LLM API familiarity (OpenAI/Azure OpenAI/Anthropic): request/response, streaming, rate limits, token-based billing

Onboarding/governing LLM APIs via API Manager (rate limiting, token throttling, usage tracking)

Model Context Protocol (MCP) deep understanding: architecture, transports (stdio, HTTP with SSE/Streamable HTTP), session lifecycle

MCP client-server lifecycle: capability negotiation, tool discovery, tool invocation, context passing

Securing MCP endpoints (OAuth2, API keys), authorization scoping, input validation, sandboxing

Troubleshooting MCP communication (tool call failures, transport issues, schema mismatches, timeouts)

OAuth2, JWT, API security, certificate management

Linux system administration

Troubleshooting/root cause analysis in distributed API gateway environments
