Looking for a senior/enterprise Data Architect (10–15 years) in Mumbai on contract who owns target-state data architecture across multiple systems/domains. The focus is on setting technology direction, standards, governance (KPIs/guardrails, lineage, catalog, federated governance such as Unity Catalog), and long-term roadmap, including legacy-to-cloud migration strategy. The role also requires architectural decision-making for semantic layers (e.g., Gold layer to Power BI semantic model choices like DirectLake vs Import) and designing/integrating AI/ML capabilities into the enterprise data platform—rather than primarily building pipelines as a senior data engineer.

Experience defining the target architecture, technology direction, standards, and long-term roadmap, rather than primarily focusing on implementation.

Enterprise-level architectural ownership across multiple systems, teams, or business domains, not just a single product, application, or data pipeline.

Strong involvement in governance and standards, including KPIs, guardrails, data lineage, cataloging, and federated governance frameworks ( Unity Catalog).

Experience making architectural decisions around semantic layers, such as Gold-layer to Power BI semantic model design (e.g., DirectLake vs. Import), rather than only developing reports and dashboards.

Experience designing and integrating AI/ML capabilities into enterprise data platforms.

Proven involvement in planning and leading legacy-to-cloud migrations and defining long-term platform strategies.

Senior Data Engineer (not what we are looking for) — common indicators

Experience is mainly focused on building, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines within an existing architecture.

Limited evidence of ownership of governance, standards, or broader platform architecture decisions.

Minimal involvement in stakeholder management, strategic planning, or roadmap definition.
