Business Architect (Global Legal Function)
Business Architect to define and maintain the business architecture for a Global Legal function, translating Legal strategy into target-state capabilities, value streams, operating models, processes, information and technology requirements. The role partners across Legal, Legal Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance and business stakeholders to drive traceability from strategy to outcomes, guide investment/portfolio prioritisation, and support sustainable legal transformation across jurisdictions, including alignment to legal tech platforms, data/reporting needs, governance, and delivery roadmaps.

Define and maintain the Legal Function Strategy Architecture and supporting artefacts.

Establish traceability between Legal strategy, business outcomes, capabilities, value streams, processes, information and technology.

Ensure architecture supports the future direction of Legal Operations and the wider HSBC operating model.

Identify gaps, overlaps, duplication and opportunities for simplification across the Legal landscape.

Provide architecture input to strategic planning, investment decisions and portfolio prioritisation.

Define, review and maintain the Global Legal business capability model.

Validate Level 1 and Level 2 capabilities with Legal subject matter experts and business owners.

Determine where Level 3 capability detail is required to support technology, process or investment decisions.

Establish clear capability ownership, maturity assessments and improvement priorities.

Assess current-state capability gaps and define target-state capabilities.

Ensure capability models reflect Legal’s operating model rather than simply replicating technology structures.

Essential
Required Qualifications
Business architecture / enterprise architecture / operating model design / strategic transformation experience
Translate strategy into capabilities, value streams, processes and target-state architecture
Business capability modelling (e.g., UBM, CBM or similar business models)
Current-state and target-state operating model definition
Process modelling and use of process modelling tools (e.g., ARIS)
Ability to connect business needs with technology, data and investment decisions
Stakeholder management and influencing (including senior leaders)
Experience working across functions/geographies in matrix organisations
Strong analytical, facilitation, presentation and written communication skills
Understanding of governance, risk, control, data and regulatory considerations
Ability to handle confidential/sensitive (potentially privileged) legal information
Experience in a legal, financial services, professional-services, or other complex regulated environment
Preferred
Nice to Have
Legal transformation or Legal Operations experience
Knowledge of legal service delivery, legal technology and legal process management
Experience with matter management, contract lifecycle management (CLM), legal intake, e-billing, or document management platforms
Data strategy / information architecture / reporting experience
AI-enabled transformation experience
Technology rationalisation and legacy platform retirement experience
Experience supporting regulatory change, remediation, or control-enhancement programmes
Familiarity with architecture frameworks and modelling techniques
Relevant certifications (business architecture, enterprise architecture, business analysis, or project management)
